So it has now come to this…
The Philippine Government, specifically the Department of Communications & Technology have released to the Filipino public that we have to register their SIM before July 26 (which is 2 days from now the time I write this) or we face termination of phone communications.
VIDEO: Warning from the Department of Communications & Technology
For people who are foreign to the Filipino/Tagalog language who cannot understand the video above. The important points to note are:
Filipinos cannot access their E-Wallet accounts (e.g. G-Cash) to pay bills, purchasing products, doing business, and etc. provided that they will register their SIM/phone number since their phone numbers are tied to E-wallet accounts such as G-Cash.
Money from the wallet will not disappear on the e-wallet account associated the unregistered SIM Card but simultaneously they can no longer access that account.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) Cybercrime group can backtrack you and can file a case against people selling or giving registered account which is illegal
Yes, you could get punished for selling unregistered SIM outside of the system. According to the SIM Registration Act itself, you could get imprisoned up to 6 years and pay up to 6 digits figures (in Philippine Pesos).
Penalties of the SIM Registration Act
Yes, get surveilled by the Panopticon or face the consequences that’s what the Philippine government is expressing to us.
However, with that being said, Filipinos have issues/concerns still in scams regardless of the SIM Registration Act being passed.
Concerns regarding the SIM Act & the deadline
This includes the law being unconstitutional since it invades privacy and it is considered as anti-poor especially the fact that millions of Filipinos especially the will be affected by this as most of us Filipinos need internet for work and studies since that we are a country that is HEAVY in phone consumption. Applying the law could POSSIBLY affect the livelihood of plenty of Filipinos as well as the Philippine economy to a degree.
We are not the only nation going to digital surveillance… Unfortunately most of the world are heading to Digital IDs, ESGs, Centralized Money Currencies & many more.
Digital Dystopia Ahead I guess
Personal Note
With all this being said, I personally WILL NOT comply to this. Personally I get SIM registrations reminders from my Telco company for the past few months which is annoying… They said I’m registered being postpaid despite personally not registering anything at ALL. Seems pretty shady I guess. Will not register either way no matter what regardless.
Annoying as hell man
But I will not bow down to this scam by any means. Personally I’m slowly de-conditioning myself from the technology especially being AWAKE to the dystopia thanks to COVID. I believe personally that making small sacrifices into stepping out of the matrix plantation and being free is to not accept any ridiculous crap the government has been doing. COVID definitely taught me this. I guess this SIM mania might be a blessing in disguise to me as I could explore alternatives in communicating whether I would go to a cafe for internet & communication and using other means.
Personal Freedom or Digital Slave
In addition, I probably do not need to worry about need to worry about EMF damage as well with my 4G/5G gone. Good silver lining for me personally if they push through.
No SIM/4G/5G = No EMF Risk for me :)
Nic Perlas and the Covid Call to Humanity (CCH)Crew just released possible alternatives and ways in doing it in their latest article on the SIM situation if ever things shut down. Good read personally speaking.
Nic Perlas & CCH’s statement
Anyways as July 26 approaches, whether the government are really willing to shut down the communication of millions of Filipinos which will “DEFINITELY NOT” have implications on Philippines Society, we will just have to see what happens.
Whatever happens, happens I guess…
Stumbled upon you today and found this, yeah, the scams will continue until everything improves. Philippine government is a vassal government imo - sovereignty not found.
SIM registration reminds me of Shadowrun's System Identification Number - a number tied directly to you and loaded onto your commlink (cellphone).
